Research

Peter is a media researcher, academic and consultant with an interest in government skills policies and the career development of media workers. He has produced 22 paper related to the film and television sectors.

Work includes research for the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity (2020), a report on mental health training for the Film & TV Charity (2021) and and an analysis of a Media Diversity Index for The Media Diversity Institute (MDI).

Key themes to this research include government policy making and skills policy in particular, industrial policy, the nature of creativity, careers and the understanding of what is a successful career.

Several papers have examined the nature of labour market economics.

Current research concerns the experiences and development of mature part-time doctoral students. A paper will be published in the summer of 2026.
